Winterizing Your Dosing System
Summary: How cold affects pumps and chemicals, insulation and heat-tracing measures, and shutdown protection.
Cold Risks
Crystallized chemical blocking lines and valve balls; frozen pump heads cracking; PAM solutions losing effectiveness.
Protection
- Insulate tanks and lines; add heat tracing where needed
- Keep dosing rooms above 5℃
- Store sodium hypochlorite controlled — it crystallizes when cold
Shutdown Protection
Drain and flush the head and lines; fill with antifreeze or glycerine for long stops.
