NEWDOSE Pump Model Guide: How DFD, DP, DM and DC Solenoid Series Differ
A customer sends a photo of a nameplate reading DM-12-07-X-PVT-A and asks, "Can I swap this for a manual one?" The answer is already in that string. Every NEWDOSE pump model is coded by a fixed rule: the first block is the control method, the middle gives flow and pressure, and the end covers frame, materials and power supply. Walk through it once and you can check quotes, nameplates and the model table yourself.
The Six Blocks of a NEWDOSE Pump Model Code
Using DFD-02-07-M-PPV-A as the example, from left to right:
- Control method: one of DFD, DP, DM or DC;
- Flow: 02 means 2 L/h;
- Pressure: 07 means 7 bar;
- Frame: M, HX, NX, GX, LM or X;
- Pump head materials: PPV, PVT, PVDF, SST or PTFE;
- Power supply: A is 230 V, B is 115 V, C is a special request.
The first three blocks decide how the pump is controlled, how much it delivers and how much pressure it can push against. The last three decide the housing, what touches the chemical and what it plugs into. When selecting, fix the first three, then fill in the rest.
How the Four Control Series Differ Within a NEWDOSE Pump Model Range
All four series share the same pump head and drive principle: a solenoid pushes a PTFE diaphragm. The difference is who decides the stroke rate.
DFD: set by hand at the pump
DFD uses the up and down keys on the panel to set stroke rate, and start/stop also happens at the pump. The range runs from 1 spm to the maximum rate of that NEWDOSE pump model. It suits steady duties where the dose rarely changes, such as a small pool or fixed dosing on a cooling tower.
There is a quick way to estimate flow in manual mode: current flow is roughly rated flow divided by maximum stroke rate, multiplied by the rate on the display. The manual's example is a pump rated at 3 L/h with a maximum of 120 strokes, which gives about 2 L/h at 80 strokes. That figure is measured with clean water at rated pressure. Different back pressure on site will shift it, so calibrate if accuracy matters.
DP and DM: following an external signal
DP accepts pulse signals, typically dry-contact pulses from a water meter or flowmeter. When incoming pulses are faster than the pump's maximum rate, use divide mode. When they are slower, use multiply mode.
DM accepts a 0/4–20 mA current signal. You set two points between 4 and 20 mA with their matching stroke rates, which gives proportional or inverse-proportional dosing. If there is already a pH or residual chlorine analyzer on site, a DM NEWDOSE pump model is the usual pick because the signal goes straight into the pump with no extra controller.
DC: remote control from a host
DC communicates over RS485, so it can be started, stopped and re-rated online. The factory also offers a touch screen that manages up to 128 DC pumps at once, handy on projects with many dosing points and central monitoring. Do not swap the signal wires. The manual states that reversed polarity damages the circuit board and the factory may refuse warranty.
What the Suffix Letters Mean in a NEWDOSE Pump Model
At the same 2 L/h, NEWDOSE pump model codes may read DFD-02-07-M, DFD-02-20-HX and DFD-02-16-X. The difference is the frame:
- M: a small frame for DFD only, 1–9 L/h, 3–7 bar, 30–40 W;
- HX: just as compact but higher pressure, with the DFD-02-20-HX reaching 20 bar;
- NX: 9–25 L/h, 2–7 bar, 40 W;
- GX: 6–55 L/h, 60 W. The 55-0.1 has almost no pressure capability and only suits dosing into an open tank;
- X: the classic frame, 2–50 L/h, 65 W, offered in all four control series;
- LM: only in DP and DM (the DC equivalent is L), 2–9 L/h, 30 W.
Suction lift deserves attention too. X and LM are rated for 2 m, while M, HX, NX and GX list 3 m. With the pump mounted above the tank, that 1 m can decide whether it primes at all.
When reading the NEWDOSE pump model table, filter by pressure first, then flow, and look at the frame suffix last. That keeps the long letter strings from confusing you.
Features Shared Across the Series
Whichever series you pick, the panel shows the current stroke rate on an LED display, and the red light blinks in time with each stroke, so you can tell at a glance whether the pump is working. DP, DM and DC all have a level switch input that stops the pump when the tank runs low. Within DFD, only the NX, GX and X frames have that input, so if you want a manual pump with dry-run protection, choose the frame carefully.
The far right column of the model table lists a mounting dimension code: A, B, C or D. When replacing an old pump, compare this code first. If it matches between the old and new NEWDOSE pump model, the base holes and outline should line up with minimal rework.
Working Back from Your Duty to a Model
With the duty data in hand, go through it in this order.
Start with control. No signal means DFD, flowmeter pulses mean DP, a 4–20 mA signal means DM, and PLC or DCS communication means DC.
Then flow and pressure, the heart of any NEWDOSE pump model choice. Leave about 20% headroom on the maximum dose, which is also what the manual recommends. The injection pressure must be below the pump's rated pressure. If the line runs at 5 bar, skip anything ending in 03.
Finally, materials and power. Check the pump head separately for sodium hypochlorite, acids, alkalis and solvents. Pick A or B to match your local mains supply.
For a straight replacement, copy the NEWDOSE pump model from the old nameplate, keep the control method and materials, and only confirm that flow and pressure are still adequate.
Conclusion
A NEWDOSE pump model code is easy to read once you know the pattern. The first block is the control method, the two numbers are flow and pressure, and the suffixes cover frame, materials and supply. DFD is manual, DP is pulse, DM is current and DC is communication. All four share the same flow and pressure steps and differ only in what drives the stroke rate. Fill in control, flow, pressure and materials in that order, then check the model table and the right pump usually stands out.
FAQ
Can a DM pump be run manually?
Yes. Both DM and DP have a manual/auto key. With the pump stopped, press A/M to switch to manual and set the rate from the panel.
Does "07" in a NEWDOSE pump model mean 0.7 MPa?
Yes. 07 means 7 bar, which is 0.7 MPa. Selection codes for the mechanical diaphragm pumps use MPa, so don't mix the two up.
Can an X frame and a GX frame with the same flow be swapped directly?
Not always. At 6 L/h, the X frame is 7 bar and 65 W while the GX frame is 16 bar and 60 W. Compare both rows and the mounting code item by item before swapping.
What protocol does the DC pump use on RS485?
Different editions of the documentation describe it differently. Before connecting to a PLC or DCS, ask the factory for the communication sheet for the current batch and confirm register addresses and baud rate.
Why does the PTFE option have no seal ring?
In the all-PTFE head, the pump head, diaphragm and valve seats are PTFE and the valve balls are ceramic, so there is no separate FKM seal. It suits media that also attack fluoroelastomer.
