Beverage Line Ingredient Dosing
High-precision food-grade dosing of syrup, acidulants and preservatives.
Challenges
Beverage, dairy and condiment lines continuously dose flavours, colours, acidulants, preservatives, vitamins and concentrates, as well as disinfectant and pH correction for process water. Ratios are small and ingredients valuable, so dosing errors show up directly as variations in taste, colour and specification, and can mean rework or scrapped batches.
Lines change products frequently, with different recipes and flow rates, and adjusting pump stroke and frequency by hand invites mistakes. Food-contact equipment must use suitable materials, be cleanable and work with CIP, and food-safety systems require traceable dosing records.
Our Approach
A beverage ingredient dosing package focuses on accurate ratios, easy changeovers, cleanability and records:
1. Pump selection: mechanical diaphragm or digital dosing pumps for small additive flows. The diaphragm isolates product from the drive, avoiding lubricant contamination. Wetted materials are chosen for the ingredient and cleaning chemicals; please confirm with us which material certificates you need.
2. Ratio dosing: pumps follow the main-line flowmeter signal at the set ratio, and the PLC downloads new ratios at recipe change. Where tighter accuracy is required, a flowmeter on the dosing line closes the loop.
3. Online quality checks: conductivity and pH in the blend tank or product line. Conductivity shows trends in sugar or acid content and CIP solution strength; pH controls acidity. Sensors use hygienic connections for easy removal and cleaning.
4. Process water: disinfectant and pH dosing for ingredient water can be planned together with line dosing, since stable water supports consistent product.
5. CIP compatibility: pumps and piping avoid dead legs and can switch to the cleaning circuit.
6. Records: ratios, dosed quantities and online readings per batch are stored in the PLC or MES for traceability.
Recipe ratios and quality specifications are set by your process team; we select equipment to meet them and support commissioning. Please share ingredient properties (viscosity, particles, temperature), ratio and flow range, main-line flow, cleaning method and hygienic material requirements.
Practical notes: sugary or pulpy ingredients deposit on check valves, so clean more often. Keep volatile flavours in closed containers. Drain and flush dosing lines before product changeovers to avoid carry-over affecting taste.
